AquaBombers Hit the Road - Claims Mason Championship
 
From the first swim to the last at the Mason Invitational, the AquaBombers produced lifetime and season best performances on their way to the trophy presentation.  The early season event featured a dozen teams from Southwest Ohio.  The "Men in Blue" were up to the challenge in an impressive way.  St. X scored 490 points to out pace Mason (337), and LaSalle (221).  The meet was held Saturday, December 4 at the Mason Recreation Center.

Swimmer of the Meet, Will Froass [SR] sure did his share, as he was part of the record setting 200 Medley Relay, winner in the 100 Fly, 100 Breast and anchored the come from behind 200 Free Relay.  Equaling individual wins was sophomore Alex Ingram (50 Free and 100 Back).  Christopher Perera [SR] earned the gold in the 200 Free.

St. X finished on top of the podium in all three relays.  Froass was joined by Chase Dillion [SR], Nick Wolfe [SR] and Ingram on the record 200 Medley Relay.  Perera, Froass along with Adam Wade [JR] and Oscar Haverkamp swam to the win in the 200 Free Relay.  Perera, Haverkamp, Wolfe and Ingram took care of business to finish of finals with an exclamation point first in the 400 Free Relay.

However, the success included all fourteen AquaBombers who competed, as well as those who came to support their teammates led by Taylor Martin.  The prelim/final format saw every St. X swim qualify for the "A" final heat.  Nick Wolfe exemplified the high performance efforts, as he notched lifetime best in all four of his swims.

Picking up top three finishes were:
Braydon Myers [JR]  200 Free – 3rd
Oscar Haverkamp [SR]  100 IM – 2nd
Chase Dillon [JR]  500 Free – 3rd/500 Free – 2nd
Nick Wolfe [SR]  100 Fly – 3rd/100 Back – 2nd
Dave Fogler [JR]  100 Free – 3rd     
 
The 17th annual edition of the Mason Invitational was extremely well run and the hospitality outstanding.  It marked the 11th consecutive championship for St. Xavier.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • St. X earned 8 event wins (ties record)
  • All St. X swims qualified for "A" finals (ties record)
  • Eleven swims would have qualified for District meet last year
  • 86% Best Times in Prelims – 66% Best Times in Finals
  • Every athlete had a season best and the majority had a lifetime best.
  • Class Roll Call – Seniors (6), Juniors (6), Sophomore (1), Freshman (1)
 COACHES' COMMENTS 

"Great effort from start to finish.  Our guys stayed focused beginning at 7 a.m. and concluding with our team cheer at 9 p.m.  The Alma Mater always sounds good!  Coaches Brower and Beerman were instumental in having us ready to race," reflected head coach Dave Albert.
"I really enjoy the meet and the prelim/final format gives an opportunity similar to the other events down the road.  Our swimmers were engaged in and out of the water.  Certainly a solid step in the right direction," commented assistant head coach Jim Brower.
"What a quality even.  Very gratifying to share a day like Saturday with our swimmers and coaches.  I have had the good fortune to be at the Mason Invitational annually and we benefit greatly from our participation," concluded assistant head coach Tom Keefe.
