Wyoming Hosts Invitational - St. X Picks Up Win

WYOMING HOSTS INVITATIONAL – ST. X PICKS UP WIN
 
On Saturday, December 18, Wyoming hosted a co-ed holiday invitational involving five schools at Powell Crosley YMCA.  In the men's competition, the AquaBombers came out on top scoring 408 to Ross Ram's 137 and Wyoming Cowboy's 121.  Setting the tone for the "Boys from Bomberville" were seniors Christopher Perera and Levi Shooner.  The two partnered with freshman Liam Bien and senior Chase Guenther to get things off and "swimming" with the 200 Medley Relay win.  Perera would also finish first in the 50 Free and 100 Breast.  Shooner swam to gold in the 100 Fly and both 200 and 400 Free Relays.  On the 200 Relay, he was joined by Nick Rucker [FR], Myles Connock [FR], and Henry Berry [SR].  Berry posted a lifetime best coming from behind to out touch his teammates by eight one-hundredths of a second.  The runner-up relay featured Guenther, Bien, Alex Perry [JR] and Matthew Kammerer [SR].  Kammerer also posted a lifetime best.

The final event saw Shooner lead off the victorious 400 Free Relay.  Rowan Donovan [SR], Ocean Isham [SOPH] and Rucker did their jobs in earning the win.  Donovan claimed the 100 Free, while Bien top finish in the 200 IM was his first individual as an AquaBomber.  Sophomore Luke Mangano also swam to the top of the podium for the first time in the 500 Free.  Both Bien's and Mangano's times were "best lifetimes" (BLT's)!

The Long Blue Lane now focuses on exams before celebrating Christmas and the rededication of Keating Natatorium on December 26.

COACHES COMMENTS – 
"I was honored to lead chapel on Friday before the meet. My message of the importance of teammates was clearly manifested on Saturday.Our athletes did a wonderful job in and out of the pool," reflected coach Zach Vogelpohl.
 
"As coaches we work collaboratively.Our athletes certainly embraced the concept from start to finish.We trained in the morning, hit the weights and then competed extremely well, Quite a day," noted head coach Dave Albert.
 
"No question our guys were into the event.Seeing time drops and smiles makes our time together meaningful," commented coach John Zink.
 
"PCY, Mike Leonard and his staff are marvelous hosts.And the acoustics over there are amazing.We were loud in the pool and on the deck," summarized assistant head coach Tom Keefe.
