Giving Thanks AquaBomber Style

Giving Thanks AquaBomber Style

The days surrounding Thanksgiving are important for the St. Xavier Swimming and Diving program. This year was no exception as practices continued as usual, coupled with two inter-squad events. However, the tone was set in Chapel prior to Thanksgiving by Coach Don DiGiacomo.  The message was a powerful expression of gratitude and how to express it.

The presentation was heard loud and clear and demonstrated on a daily basis. All swimmers got their first taste of competition as the Turkeys faced off against the Cranberries on November 24 in the New World Classic.

A sprint oriented meet had the Turkeys "basting" the Cranberries 27.68 to 24.72 (using the modified Coach Keefe scoring system).  Freshmen Walker Bailey (45 points), Hendrix Cross (41 points) and Gino Eckert (41 points) led the scoring.
Seventy-two hours later, the AquaBombers squared off in the annual Blue/White meet.  The competition was properly sandwiched between Mass celebrated with Fr. Walter Deye SJ and a fabulous banquet.  The Blue squad prevailed 1033 to 897.  Multiple winners were Thackston McMullen [Soph] (200 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Free Relay), Chase Guenther [SR] (200 Medley Relay, 100 Back, 400 Free Relay), Logan Tobery [SR] (200 Medley Relay, 50 Free, 100 Free) and Nick Wolfe [SR] (200 Free Relay, 100 Breast).

The regular season begins Thursday, December 2 against GCL opponent Elder followed by Mason Invitational on December 4.
