Bomber Soccer Season Ends in Sudden Death Penalty Kicks

The St. Xavier soccer program's dream season concluded Saturday afternoon as the Bombers fell to the Elks of Centerville High School in sudden death penalty kicks.

After falling behind 1-0 just 12 minutes into the match, Patrick Ahrens tied the contest 1-1 late in the first half off a Brady Manahan set piece. The Elks countered with another early goal, this time just 10 minutes into the second half. Again, it was Manahan to the rescue, this time setting up Tanner Creech for the equalizer with 5 minutes remaining in the contest.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the two overtime periods, forcing St. Xavier to penalty kicks for the second consecutive game. The two teams tied through the first five shooters, condemning the match to sudden death to decide a winner.

It was the third set of sudden death that proved to be the difference as Centerville scored on their PK and denied the Bombers on their chance to extend the match.

St. Xavier ends their season 13-3-5 while compiling a District Championship and back-to-back GCL Championships along the way.
