Late Heroics Guide Bomber Soccer to Regional Semi-Finals

80 minutes of regulation and two 15-minute overtimes weren't enough to decide a winner in Saturday night's District Championship matchup between the St. Xavier Bombers and the Beavercreek Beavers.

Even a full set of penalty kicks couldn't separate the two teams who took to sudden death after tying the initial penalty kick session 3-3.

The Bombers struck first to put the pressure on Beavercreek and it was junior goalkeeper Luke Eckert who rose to the occasion by saving the shot and the game in the process to give St. Xavier the 0-0 win on PKs.

Eckert pitched his seventh full shutout on the season, but none quite as big as his performance Saturday night. Eckert recorded five saves on the night.

The Bombers attacked the goal all night long with 26 shot attempts, but neither team could get one to hit the back of the net.

St. Xavier moves on to play the Mason Comets in the Region Semi-Finals on Wednesday, November 3rd. The game is slated for 7:00 pm at Lakota East High School. The two teams met back in late September in a clash of Cincinnati's top two teams that ended in a 1-0 Bomber victory. Tickets can be purchased here.
