Bombers Win Battle of GCL Unbeatens

The St. Xavier Bombers and the Moeller Crusaders both entered Tuesday night's matchup unbeaten in GCL play and in a deadlock for first place atop the GCL South.

After playing to a draw in their first matchup of the season, the second edition seemed destined for the same result with both keepers putting on tremendous displays in goal.

Scoring opportunities were at a minimum as both defenses made it difficult for either team to get a good look. That is, until senior Rylan Earl found the ball at his feet in the box after several ricocheted shots from the Bombers. Earl emphatically put the ball in the back of the net with just five minutes remaining in the contest, sensing they were on the verge of a big victory.

With a similar game script playing out from the first matchup that saw Moeller tie the match late, the Bomber defense was able to hold firm in the final five minutes this time as they escaped Corcoran Field at Xavier University with a 1-0 win and sole possession of first place in the GCL South.

Earl's goal moves him into the top-5 in the GCL in scoring while goalkeeper, Luke Eckert, pitched his GCL-leading 5th shutout. The win clinches at least a share of the GCL South crown for St. Xavier.

The Bombers are back in action on Saturday, October 9^th when they welcome Sycamore High School to RDI Stadium for Senior Night at 7:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased here. They close out GCL and regular season play with a trip to Elder High School on Tuesday, October 12^th.
