Bombers open season with win over Indiana powerhouse Brownsburg

The first half of St. X vs Brownsburg game was an offensive battle. The two teams went into the locker room at the half locked into a tight score of 17-16 Brownsburg. However, after some halftime adjustments the Bombers, started to get their rhythm. A dominating Bomber defense held Brownsburg to one score in the second half. The Bombers scored two defensive touchdowns in the 3rd quarter, a blocked punt and fumble returned for a touchdown. On the offensive side of the ball, St. Xavier running backs ran away with the game and the air attack too strong. After a gritty, dominating second half performance, the Bombers went on a 24-0 scoring run to win the game, and opened the season on a great note, knocking off one of Indiana's toughest powerhouse programs. Senior Matt Rueve had a big night in his first game as the starting quarterback going 21-35 for 301 yards and 2 touchdowns. Rueve spread it out connecting with 6 different receivers led by Owen Smith with 100 yards and a touchdown on 3 receptions. On the ground the Bombers were led by Luke Vransky with 13 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown. On defense Matt Devine had a big night with a big sack for a 12 yard loss and 8 total sacks. On top of the fumble returned for a touchdown, the Bomber defense only allowed 65 yards of rushing only giving up an average of 1.8 yards per attempt. 

The Bombers travel to Colerain this Friday in the Crosstown Showdown. The Bombers hope to avenge last year's 2 losses to the Cardinals during the regular and post-season. Kickoff is at 7pm.
